Bigodi Community and Swamp Walk

Bigodi Community and Swamp Walk . Bigodi is a local village located near Kibale National park a few kilometers to the Kanyanchu visitor center where chimpanzee tracking starts every morning and afternoon .

Bigodi village is a mixture of 2 tribes of people . The Batoro who are the natives and the Bakiga who are the immigrants from Kigezi region of south western Uganda . Bigodi is found in Toro kingdom and the main language spoken in this village is Rutoro .

Being that chimpanzee tracking is done twice in a day , that is morning or evening , you can chose to do the following common activities before or after your chimpanzee activity .

1. Swamp Walk .

The people of Bigodi organized themselves to have the bigodi swamp protected . This swamp is a home to 8 Primates and over 200 birds .

These Primates Are : Red tailed monkey , Black and white colobus monkey , red colobus monkey , vervet monkey , L`hoests monkey , grey cheeked mangabey and the olive baboon .

Among the birds are , the great blue turaco , hornbills , parrots , barbets , sunbirds and many more .

2. The community walk .

Here you visit the community and in this village you visit 4 homes who will take you through different experiences .

BANANA EXPERIENCE . ( Rest in Banana ) Bigodi Community and Swamp Walk

In this home you meet a banana man who makes different drinks out of the bananas and that is the Banana juice , the banana beer and the banana gin . All these drinks are safe and your free to taste on them.

COFFEE EXPERIENCE .

In this home , you will visit a coffee home where the local barista will take you through all the steps of making coffee right from planting coffee up to the last step of making the final coffee powder and taste on your own made organic home coffee.

THE TRADITIONAL HEALER  ( Local Doctor )

Meet an old man who treats the sick local people using the local medicine traditionally .

He uses different skulls of animals , bornes , Hare , seeds of trees , plants and shrubs plus the spirits inherited from his grandparents .

THE TRADITIONAL MUSIC ( WOMEN WEAVING BASKETS )

On this you visit a group of women who make the local baskets using local materials and colours .

Its the same group who will take you through the cultural entertainment
